Want to alienate female consumers?
Pepsi has an app for that...

Pepsi is at it again.
The Gods of bad press are a smiling down on the Pepsi Nation these days....

In a effort to promote it's AMP energy drink brand in the USA, Pepsi has released "AMP Up Before You Score", a free app you install on your iPhone or iPod Touch that helps you "get lucky".

The app profiles 24 different "types" of women, giving tips for landing each in bed - including actual pick up lines.

Girl types range from "College Girls" to "Foreign Exchange Students" to “Out-of-Your-League Girl" to "Trouble” as you see in the screenshot above and to the right.

As if that wasn't enough....

What's more... the app also includes links so you can also brag about your conquest straight to Twitter and Facebook.  The app's description encourages users to share the names of their sexual partners with their friends online.
"Get lucky? Add her to your Brag List. You can include the name, date and whatever details you remembers," it states. "Keep your buddies in the loop on email, Facebook or Twitter."
It should come as little surprise to anyone to learn that this app has provoked strong opinion from people all over the internet, and it was a trending topic on Twitter.

Links to screenshots of the app can be found here, on Flickr (posted by Neville Hobson).

It is amazing that a company like Pepsi would promote something so demeaning to women, who one would assume, account for at least 50% of Pepsi product purchases.  After the firestorm of negativity that ensued, Pepsi Tweeted an apology--however as of the time of publishing this article Pepsi has not made any announcement about discontinuing availability of the app.
